What it Means to Be IICRC Certified

What it Means to Be IICRC Certified

When you look to hire a company, one of the things that stand out is the number of certifications held. But what exactly does it mean when a company holds certification and what measures do they have to take to become certified?  For this blog, we are going to explore the IICRC and their very prestigious certification.

What is the IICRC?

The Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) is an independent, certification body that holds the inspection, cleaning and restoration industry to high standards and ethics and advances communication and technical proficiency. The IICRC will also ensure that when a consumer hires a certified company or technician, they have hired experts providing reasonable assurance that work will be completed within the industry standard of care. As a non-profit organization, they aim to protect customers from any fraudulent practices in the cleaning industry.

Core values

Who we are at OMA Professional Cleaning Technicians reflects the values set forth by the IICRC.

These core values as per the IICRC are:

Respect – We will treat everyone we encounter in our interactions through the IICRC, in the same manner, we would wish to be treated.
Responsible – We will work to assure that the obligations and stated goals of the IICRC are met in a timely fashion.
Integrity – We will establish and maintain a culture characterized by honesty, high values and exceptional standards of conduct.
Excellence – We will accept nothing less than the best in leadership, quality, and service.
Expert – We will continue to build the IICRC’s reputation as the leading authority and source of professional knowledge in the industry.

The IICRC certified technician process

To become a certified technician, one must attend IICRC-approved courses. Once the course is completed, the technician must complete the written examination for that course. Finally, to maintain any IICRC certifications, a technician must complete the annual continuing education credits required. There are almost 30 certification courses available to technicians wishing to become IICRC certified.

The IICRC certified firm process

First, the company must fill out a “Certified Firm Application Request Form” and submit it to headquarters. Once received, reviewed and approved, a “Certified Firm Application” and “Code of Ethics” will be sent. The signed application and code of ethics get returned with a copy of the business license and proof of insurance. The company agrees to have an IICRC-certified technician on all job sites. Meaning in all categories of service, the technician is certified by IICRC and will supervise the work performed on site.

Just as any profession should, we strive to perform at a higher level of competency in our field. As an IICRC certified company, we are upheld to the highest globally recognized standard. We provide our consumers with quality and assurance that these standards will be met. We feel that we are set apart through the training and experience we have received with the IICRC certification.
